'Cressy Cottage' is a fabulous and charming Grade II Listed detached cottage which occupies a delightful location within the centre of this historic and sought-after village. The excellent range of local facilities include a popular primary school, three Public Houses, church, various shops and an excellent bus service to Plymouth City Centre, some four miles distant. Derriford Hospital is less than two miles away.

The cottage exudes much character, and the plethora of features include various fireplaces, beamed ceilings and slate floors. Located in a Conservation Area, the cottage most certainly warrants an internal inspection.

The accommodation, briefly, comprises on the ground floor of an entrance hallway, a sitting room with a recently installed period style fireplace feature, a dining room, a snug/breakfast room, utility and a cloakroom/w.c. Recently a quality fitted kitchen had been installed and is a delightful feature of the property. On the first floor are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The property has gas fired central heating and we understand the wiring has been updated and a new first floor bay window installed.

Externally there is a useful workshop and large garage which is an irregular shape and measures approximately 26.6 X 21.10. The gardens are an exceptional and charming feature of this property being laid mainly to lawn with well stocked flower beds, mature trees, patio and seating areas. The beautiful gardens certainly make the house.

Agents note

An internal inspection of this magnificent, listed cottage and walled country gardens can be strongly advised.

Historical note

We understand that Cressy Cottage was built sometime in the early 18th century. We are verbally informed that it was certainly insitu in 1761 but know nothing prior to that. It was widely thought that it was built in circa 1750. It was part of the huge Warleigh estate owned by the Lord of Warleigh. The foliot part of the village at Tamerton Foliot is known to rise from the Foliot family, John Foliot being the cousin if William the Conqueror.

Cressy cottage became a Grade II listed building in 1975 and was then described as a ‘detached village house’.
