The best places to live in Cornwall for nature lovers

So, you’ve spent some time exploring the very best attractions that Cornwall has to offer. Now, just imagine living there and having the chance to make this remarkable county your home.

The vast Cornish coast is renowned for its picturesque harbours, moors, cliffs and beaches, making it the ideal destination for nature lovers. But, aside from the commercial hotspots of this southwestern tip of the UK, there are a few hidden gems set amongst outstanding beauty for you to discover at your own pace.

With its unique plants, trees and wildlife, it is hard not to find something to love about Cornwall. So, if it’s the outdoors that draws you to this part of the country, then you may like to consider moving to one of the following five Cornish towns.

St Just

St Just, or St Just-in-Penwith as it is otherwise known, is situated on the edge of the moors nearest Land’s End. The area surrounding this old tin mining town is classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the perfect location for walks and hikes. Go to the National Trust’s website for tips on following the circular St Just coastal walk.

Fowey

Fowey, as its name suggests, is a town situated on the mouth of the River Fowey and is home to a charming natural harbour with blockhouses dating back to the fourteenth century. Though small, Fowey scores big on beauty, offering picturesque cobbled streets and quaint little cottages sat upon the glistening river. For those who love to be by the sea or love to venture out on the shore, Fowey is close to many beautiful beaches and also offers ferry and yacht trips to nearby sights Polruan and Bodinnick.

Bodmin

Bodmin sits right on the edge of Bodmin moor, enabling many wonderful walks and trails to be discovered, whilst also making up a part of a local nature reserve where you’ll find acres of hilly woodland, perfect for mountain bikers looking for some challenging rides. It’s not unusual to come across some horse riders in the woods, too.

Newquay

One of the bigger names in Cornwall, Newquay is noted for its picturesque coastal scenery and its spectacular beaches. Fistral is the bustling surfer beach, holding many sporting events and attracting visitors from all over the world, while Towan, Lusty Glaze, Great Western and Tolcarne are slightly less exposed to tourism. The countryside surrounding the town’s zoo provides an excellent place to go walking, and the tropical, lakeside gardens are pretty amazing too!

Truro

Like St Ives, Penzance and, of course, Newquay, Truro is one of Cornwall’s finest tourist attractions. However, despite having much to offer people commercially, Truro also boasts Kennall Vale on its doorstep which is said to be one of the most magical woods in the region. A visit to the woodland won’t cost you a penny, so this is the perfect location for outdoor activities as well as being an excellent space to photograph.
