The safest county in England

Research from proptech startup, OneDome shows that Oxfordshire is currently England’s safest county.

Up-to-date crime statistics

Using street-level data about crime and policing in the UK, OneDome’s Locality Reality algorithm generated Oxfordshire a score of 7.83. The population of Oxfordshire centres around the city of Oxford, which is widely regarded to be one of the prettiest in the UK. The city is home to around 170,000 people, and is famed for its education, charming cobbled streets and its famous past inhabitants. CS Lewis and JR Tolkien are just two of the authors that chose to live there.

Oxfordshire only narrowly beat Gloucestershire, which scored 7.82, and Hampshire which achieved a score of 7.81. Other high performers were East Sussex and Buckinghamshire. However, Greater ManchesterGreater London, and Tyne & Wear are the three least safe boroughs with Locality Reality safety scores of just 5.8, 6.2, and 6.7 respectively.

Saving searches time

Locality Reality is a unique way of mapping a specific area of England or Wales. It also allows home buyers, renters – and those that are simply curious – to learn about and compare areas on a postcode level. The platform is free to use and has so far attracted nearly 2 million visitor to the site.

When generating a ‘safety’ score, the platform shows details of personal crime, property crime, statutory crime and other crime. Moreover, it helps potential home buyers break down the crime statistics in their preferred areas.

Using a mix of data sources, Locality Reality calculates an individual score for seven key criteria. This includes education, green spaces, transport and safety. Users need only type in their postcode to find out their Locality Reality score.

Find out the safety score of your area by visiting Locality Reality and entering your postcode.
