THE PROPERTY.
Strete Ralegh Gardens comprises an attractive detached residence which sits in what were the grounds of Strete Ralegh House and was the gardeners cottage and splendid walled kitchen garden to this magnificent early Victorian country house. The house itself has evolved greatly over the years with the original cottage having origins from the mid-1800s, before being significantly and creatively extended in the early 2000s with a large wing connected by a single storey link. This link was then the subject of a complete transformation by the current owners with the addition of a simply stunning drawing room which is clad in timber with an enormous span of bifold doors (by Origin) under a zinc roof with two roof lanterns, as well as the refitment of the semi-vaulted kitchen which is now a beautifully bright room with a high-quality contemporary edge.
The accommodation is found superb order and is very adaptable in its layout, potentially offering two wings which would suit large or extended families, a self-contained annexe, or could even provide an income through letting subject to any planning consents required. Strete Ralegh Gardens is very attractive from the lane-side with its mellow brick elevations and is tucked in behind the high garden walls which form the boundary for the plot, making it particularly private.
GARDENS & GROUNDS.
Strete Ralegh Gardens is approached from the quiet country lane through an arched entranceway in the high brick wall onto a gravelled driveway which leads around to the side of the property and provides parking for several vehicles. It also benefits from a superb and sizeable garage/workshop which is accessed through two single electric garage doors off the lane (as well as having a pedestrian door into the rear garden). This fabulous, insulated space was created by the current owners to provide a large engineering workshop and would be suitable for a wide variety of uses.
Undoubtedly one of the main features at Strete Ralegh Gardens is the magnificent walled garden which extends to about half an acre and creates a beautifully sheltered setting which has a huge amount of colour and interest throughout the seasons. The mellow brick walls provide the perfect backdrop for many climbing plants including a wisteria, espalier pear trees and an old fig tree to the front of the property. The garden is principally laid to a large level lawn which is interspersed with borders containing a vast array of shrubs and specimen trees. These are too numerous to mention in this brochure, but include a glorious magnolia, camelias, rhododendrons eucalyptus, walnut, ginkgo and a mature copper beech, along with a number of fruit trees. Within the grounds is a productive kitchen garden with four large raised beds, a greenhouse and various timber stores and sheds. There are also a number of strategically placed terraces and patios in order to make the most of the sunshine throughout the day.
