The property
Bay Tree Cottage is a delightful period family home with glorious far reaching views. It has lawned gardens and a detached double garage with thatched roof, along with a versatile summer house to enjoy the sunshine.
Thought to date from the Mid 17th Century, the house has light and attractive accommodation while embracing period features including an impressive sandstone inglenook fireplace and exposed beams. The kitchen, which extends into a dining area, is fitted in traditional oak style and has the benefit of a 4 door AGA LPG range. The attractive dining and drawing rooms are connected by double doors with the study beyond and all have wide picture windows framing the awe-inspiring views. A cosy sitting room is accessed from the front hall with a central fireplace and it too enjoys the view. There are two bespoke oak staircases leading to the first floor. From the front hall one leads to the main landing off which is the principal bedroom with an en suite dressing room
fitted with a range of cupboards, and its own bathroom beyond. Two further bedrooms share a family shower room, one having a connecting door to the second landing accessed by the second staircase with a further bathroom and fourth bedroom.
Despite having superb architectural detail and its historic provenance the house is unlisted. The thatched roof has been well maintained by the current owners with the ridge having been replaced in 2019.
Location
Bay Tree Cottage is situated in the pretty North Shropshire village of Marchamley. It enjoys a peaceful location with a country aspect, far reaching views and access to good walks. There is a community hall offering all year round activities and events. The neighbouring village of Hodnet has good local amenities including a church, village shop, pub and primary school. The market towns of Whitchurch and Market Drayton are nearby with a further range of amenities, supermarkets and secondary schools. The county town of Shrewsbury is an easy drive and renowned for its excellent schools, both within the state and private sectors, its theatres and year round events. Marchamley is also well placed for commuting to Midland business centres, Telford and Chester. Whitchurch Station has a regular rail service to Crewe to connect to London services, Birmingham and Manchester.
Outside
Bay Tree Cottage is situated off a quiet nothrough lane with its gateway opening to a wide gravel parking area to the side of the house with a pretty thatched double garage beyond. There is a small garden to the front with a paved walkway to the front door and to the back a wide terrace ideal for al fresco dining and a west facing summer house with electricity connected, presently used as a gym, but ideal as a home office. The garden has a sweeping lawn with magnificent views over North Shropshire. To one side is a large area of decking which is located over the now disused swimming pool which could be restored if required.
