The Sellers View...

I moved to my bungalow on Lambourne Drive in April 2010, as I wanted a secure enclosed garden for my little Jack Russell.  At least, I thought it was secure - she still managed to dig her way under the neighbour’s fence within 3 hours of moving in and had to be coaxed back with chunks of cheese!!  Suffice to say, the garden was subsequently terrier-proofed and none of my fostered or adopted dogs ever managed to get out again.

The garden is a bit of a wildlife refuge as I have several endangered species - stag beetles nest in the woodpiles, slow worms live under the compost heap and in various corners, and I have also seen newts.  Several frogs hibernate under the wood too even though I don’t have a pond.  In Spring, there is a large patch of bluebells and daffodils, along with grape hyacinths and other self-seeded wildflowers which attract a lot of insects and butterflies.  The raised section catches a lot of sun all year round due to the low roof heights so I was doing quite well with exotic plants in pots until my latest pup arrived and took great delight in digging them all out!

It is less than quarter of a mile to get to the nearest open field for dog-walking (next to Lillibrooke Manor) and I love the fact that it’s possible to roam for miles over the fields following public footpaths, either heading out towards White Waltham, or curving round to come into the back of Ockwells Park.  There are also local woodlands at The Thicket and Little Thicket, and easy access to picturesque walking at Marlow, Henley-on-Thames and Cookham.

Transport links are also great - it’s just over a mile to the M4, and about 10 miles to the M40 with the M25 within easy reach.  Trains run direct into Paddington and the new Elizabeth Line makes commuting into London very straightforward.

I’m very excited to be starting a new chapter of my life by moving to South Wales so my next challenge will be making a new garden secure for my little terrier-cross!
