Ever popular with the sailing fraternity, the area has also much to offer wildlife enthusiasts - cormorants, herons, guillemots, seals, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks have all been observed. Sea, river and loch fishing are available in the area. The Cowal Way offers walkers the opportunity to follow a new long distance footpath from Portavadie on Loch Fyne to Ardgartan on Loch Long, through little known and remote countryside. The route is divided into six one day sections, with an additional seven circular walks linked to the main route. The worlds last sea going paddle steamer, the Waverley, calls regularly at Tighnabruaich on excursions.
